We arrived Lieser opposite side of Mulheim early evening on Wednesday Aug 1. We spent some time winetasting and then decided to have dinner. To our great surprise many of the restaurants in Lieser had 'ruhetag' on Wednesdays and all others had closed their kitchens already at 8.

We went back and forth on main street without getting anything to eat. I cannot understand how this is possible when living off of tourists. This really make Mosel a less attractive place to visit.

We had seen both River Bär and Weisser Bär upon our arrival. They both looked wonderful from the opposite side of the river! The person picking up the phone immediately wanted to help and asked the kitchen - which was supposed to close 9.

They could! What a relief! Immediately upon arrival we were positively met by staff - the girl in the Biergarten and the waitress in the restaurant.

No problems! No stress! We had lamb and chicken beer and wine! And what a fantastic location and wonderful view of the valley and river!

You saved our day!! Unfortunately we just got a little glance of the inside of the hotel on our way to the very nice wc If we go back to Mosel we will stay at this place.

I just have one question: what is the background of the white bear? To the staff -from the person on the phone to all the ones in the restaurant - thank you so much!!

The gem is most definitely the annex; a floating hotel! There's something endearing and maybe even nostalgic about walking up a gangway to go to bed.

And that's exactly what you get here. The boat is a fully contained unit with bar, restaurant, deck, and beautiful rooms that are among the most charming I've ever come across in Germany They are spotlessly clean, well equipped, comfortable, and with a contemporary nod to maritime theme.

I really didn't want to leave! The staff I encountered were also really good. Missing the apathy and lack of friendliness you so often get in hotels in this part of they world.

Instead they were genuinely friendly, efficient and attentive. It was a refreshing surprise :- Regarding the main building, it seems to be olde worlde German.

It's clean and welcoming, but probably not much different in looks to a thousand other traditional hotels. If you're coming here to stay, definitely ask to be housed in the annex :- ….
